What is Freeland Force Travel Soccer?
Freeland Force Travel Soccer is a competitive program designed for athletes looking to elevate their skills through advanced training, challenging competition, and character development.
Who is eligible to play for Freeland Force?
Teams are formed based on birth year, with players ranging from ages 9 to 15 and older.
What is the travel commitment level for travel soccer?
MMYSL is a local league with closer travel, mostly within the Tri-City area. Some games may be played in Alma, Mt. Pleasant, Davison, or Traverse City. Competition levels can vary.
Premier teams compete in a statewide league with multiple levels of competition. These teams are more competitive and may travel farther, with most games within a two-hour drive.
For both leagues, half of your games will be home, and half will be away.
How do I know if my child will be on a MMYSL or Premier team?
Force offers Premier teams starting at U13. Your coach will inform you if you are selected for a spot on a Premier team.
What does a typical season schedule look like?
Fall – Practices are held twice a week, starting in early August, with games beginning at the end of August. The season includes 8 to 10 league games, plus the possibility of 1 to 2 tournaments. The season runs through October.
Winter – Training takes place from January to March, with optional Futsal leagues during the winter.
Spring – Practices are held twice a week, starting in early April, with games beginning at the end of April. The season includes 8 to 10 league games, with the possibility of 1 to 2 tournaments. The season runs through the beginning of June.
Where are practices and home games held?
Practices and home games take place at the Freeland Soccer Club Complex, located at Freeland Middle School, 8250 Webster, Freeland, MI 48623.
What training opportunities are available?
We offer experienced coaching, strength and conditioning services, and specialized position training to help athletes reach their full potential.
Can I play another sport at the same time as travel soccer?
Yes, this is common for middle school athletes who participate in volleyball and track. If you find yourself in this situation, please communicate with the coach before accepting a spot on the team to help coordinate schedules.
What are the costs associated with travel soccer?
The travel program fees are around $550 for MMYSL and $600 for Premier, covering both the fall and spring seasons, as well as winter futsal. This fee is due at the team registration meeting, typically held 2-3 weeks after tryouts. A jersey kit costs around $100 and can be used for multiple seasons. Tournament costs are shared among those who participate. There is no cost to try out.
Can I play for just fall or spring season?
Yes, if you are available for just fall/spring, please communicate that prior to tryouts. Half season cost is $320 for MMSYL and $370 for Premier.
How can I register to tryout for Freeland Force Travel Soccer?
Register above or contact the Freeland Force Director of Travel for more details.
Do I have to try out both Saturday and Sunday?
It’s not required, but strongly recommended. However, all players must complete the tryout process. The Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) also requires that team placements cannot be made before the first day of tryouts.
My child excels for their age, can they play on an older team?
Yes, MSYSA permits players to play up to two years above their age group, and girls are also allowed to play on boys’ teams.
How do I know that a coach is being fair at tryouts and not just picking friends?
Each tryout group is assigned an independent evaluator who ensures that the coaches’ decisions are fair and justified.
What do I do once I arrive at tryouts?
Check in at the registration table to receive a number based on your child’s birth year. You will then be directed to the field for the age group you’re trying out for. Please ensure your child wears the assigned number on both days.
Are scholarships available for travel soccer?
Yes, scholarships are available to help offset travel soccer costs for families facing financial hardship. To be considered, please complete and submit the form below.
